All visitors require a visa before traveling to Bhutan (exceptions apply to visitors from India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives).
  • Sustainable Development Fee (SDF): US$100 per day (per adult).
  • Visa Application Fee: A non-refundable one-off fee of US$40.

Visitors from India, Bangladesh, and The Maldives

Visitors from India require a permit, which can be applied for in advance or upon arrival (expect long waits). Visitors from Bangladesh and The Maldives require a visa, similar to Indian nationals. Note: Arranging permits or visas beforehand is recommended to avoid delays.

Facilitating Movement of Tourists

Tourists no longer need route permits or to stop at internal checkpoints when accompanied by a DOT-certified guide, except in restricted areas.

Restricted Areas

Tourists can visit restricted trekking routes if accompanied by a DOT-certified trekking guide.
