Botanical Tour in Bhutan

Day 1: Arrival in Paro Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be greeted by your guide and driver, who will accompany you throughout your journey in Bhutan. After checking in at your hotel, you’ll begin your exploration with a visit to the National Museum of Bhutan. Located in the Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower, the museum offers a fascinating introduction to Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage. In the evening, enjoy a leisurely stroll around Paro town, taking in the local atmosphere and perhaps visiting some of the quaint shops. You will spend the night in Paro.   Day 2: Paro to Thimphu After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital. The journey offers picturesque views of the Paro Valley as you make your way along the winding roads. Upon arrival in Thimphu, you will visit the Botanical Garden at Serbithang, where you’ll discover a variety of plants native to Bhutan. After a traditional Bhutanese lunch in Thimphu, your afternoon will include a visit to Tashichho Dzong, an impressive fortress and monastery that houses the throne room and offices of the King. Spend the evening at your leisure, exploring Thimphu or relaxing at your hotel.   Day 3: Thimphu Exploration Today, you will further explore the capital city, starting with a visit to the Bhutan Postal Museum. Here, you can learn about Bhutan’s unique postal history and view a collection of rare stamps. Next, you’ll visit Changangkha Lhakhang, an ancient temple perched on a hilltop, offering panoramic views of Thimphu. After a morning of exploration, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. The afternoon is free for you to explore Thimphu at your own pace, whether you choose to shop for local handicrafts, visit additional cultural sites, or simply relax. You will spend another night in Thimphu.   Day 4: Thimphu to Punakha Depart Thimphu in the morning and drive towards Punakha, crossing the Dochula Pass, where you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountain range. Along the way, you’ll stop at the Royal Botanical Park in Lamperi, a haven of biodiversity. Here, you’ll explore a wide variety of flora, including colorful rhododendrons and magnolias. Afterward, continue your journey to Punakha, where you’ll visit the stunning Punakha Dzong, located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. You’ll spend the night in Punakha.   Day 5:  Punakha Exploration Explore Punakha at your leisure. You may choose to take a leisurely hike to the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, which offers spectacular views of the Punakha Valley. Return to your hotel in Punakha for an overnight stay.   Day 6: Punakha to Phobjikha Valley Today, you’ll journey to the Phobjikha Valley, a beautiful glacial valley known for its scenic landscapes and as a winter habitat for the endangered Black-necked cranes. Upon arrival, you’ll visit the Gangtey Monastery, an important center of Buddhist learning in Bhutan. In the afternoon, take a nature walk through the valley, where you can observe the unique flora and enjoy the tranquility of this remote area. You will stay overnight in the Phobjikha Valley.   Day 7: Phobjikha Valley Botanical Exploration Spend the day exploring the unique botanical richness of Phobjikha Valley. The valley’s diverse ecosystems, ranging from wetlands to forests, offer a wide variety of plant species to discover. If visiting in the winter months, you might also observe the Black-necked cranes. The day’s activities include a visit to the Black-necked Crane Information Centre, where you’ll learn about the conservation efforts in the valley. After a fulfilling day of exploration, return to your hotel for a restful evening.   Day 8: Return to Paro After breakfast, drive back to Paro, enjoying the scenic views as you retrace your route. Upon arrival, you’ll visit a local farmhouse, where you’ll experience traditional Bhutanese life and sample local cuisine. This cultural experience will provide insight into the daily lives of Bhutanese farmers and the importance of agriculture in the country. The evening is free for you to explore Paro at your leisure or do some last-minute shopping. You will stay overnight in Paro.   Day 9: Departure from Paro On your final day in Bhutan, enjoy some free time in the morning to explore Paro further or do some last-minute shopping. Your guide and driver will then transfer you to Paro International Airport for your departure, bringing your botanical journey in Bhutan to a close.
